reseller hosting Cryogenic Information Center (CIC)

PLEASE NOTE: The Cryogenic Information Center (CIC) was discontinued in 2004 and is no longer a subsidiary of TAI. The CIC assets have been distributed to two organizations: NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). MSFC has the hardcopy documents from the former NBS Cryogenic Data Center and is currently electronically scanning them into their LASSE program. LASSE is available to approved government contractors. At the conclusion of the scanning effort, the hardcopy documents will be returned to NIST's Cryogenic Technologies Group in Boulder, CO.

TAI will continue to offer the CIRS bibliography database through the end of calendar year 2005. The latest CD-ROM version, updated in 2003 and released in 2004, can be purchased by completing the Information Request Form on this page. A description of the 2004 version is also given on this page.

The Cryogenic Material Properties (CMP) Program is a software package to provide thermophysical material properties for both metals and nonmetals. It has been transferred to NIST's Cryogenic Technologies Group. For material properties information at cryogenic temperatures, please contact:

In cooperation with Johns Hopkins University Chemical Propulsion Information Agency (CPIA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Technology Applications, Inc. (TAI), the assets and all software programs related to the former National Bureau of Standards Cryogenic Data Center and database have been reconstructed and updated into new databases for the crygenic community.

DATABASE & RETRIEVAL SYSTEM

The former National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Cryogenic Database has been reconstructed and updated into a new database called the Crygenic Information Retrieval System (CIRS). This database is available from the Cryogenic Information Center, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and distributing cryogenic information.

WEALTH OF INFORMATION

The Cryogenic Information Retrieval System (CIRS) is a combined database and retrieval system, dating back to 1829, that contains over 153,000 citations; over 22,000 are new citations from recent literature. CIRS incorporates a windows-based search engine.

Unlike other electronic databases, CIRS contains data from 1950 through 1970, the most intensive period of cryogenic research and development.

This single CD-ROM contains citations of DOD, NASA, contractor technical reports, and cryogenic and cryocooler conference papers covering over 100 years of cryogenic technology.

The CIRS applications, include advanced propulsion, high energy lasers and fuel cell systems, infrared sensors, cryopumps, cryoelectric semiconductors, cryocoolers, food freezing/processing, cryosurgery, superconducting magnets, LNG, cryogenic metal forming, and storage of biological cells and specimens.

EASY TO USE

The retrieval software offers an easy-to-use interface and simple language for searching. Now you can access cryogenic technical information through the ease of CD-ROM technology. Customized search software makes searching and retrieving technical report citations easy and uncomplicated. Whether you are an experienced librarian or an information end user, this easy-to-use system allows you to search and obtain the highly relevant, complete results you need.

UNIQUE SEARCHING CAPABILITIES

The CIRS incorporates a Windows 95/98/2000/NT-based search engine with formatted print output options for abstracts, author indexes, corporate source, and subject terms among others.

You can perform free-text searching of abstracts, search corporate sources and authors by name, search all variations of report numbers with one command and save search sets in the work area. Search options include Boolean/Proximity logic; e.g., "and, or, not, adjacent, same sentence."

Highly accurate and comprehensive results may be achieved to locate the most applicable references in a focused technology area.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE OPERATING REQUIREMENTS
