Thermally Conductive Vibration Isolation for Cryocoolers (TCVIS)

AFRL Phase II SBIR, Topic AF96-075; prototype demonstrated 7/99
  • Vibration cancellation uses compact six-axis electromagnetic actuators

    - 100:1 reduction goal for cryocooler drive axis
    - 20:1 reduction goal for cross-axis

  • Heat transfer from cryocooler uses flexible carbon fiber strap; ten times more efficient than copper
  • Six axis actuator system successfully tested at NIST with axial/radial reductions of:

- Drive frequency > -40 dB (>100:1)
- First four harmonics > -20 dB

  • System developed jointly by CSA Engineering and TAI.

We also developed a single-axis actuator as a spin-off technology:

Compact & inexpensive system!

  •    Axial reduction of:

- Drive Frequency > -42 dB
- First four harmonics -20 to -40 dB
- Fifth through tenth harmonic -16dB avg.

  • Developed jointly with CSA Engineering
